ABOUT goopy

Hi! I’m Tania (they/them), the artist and creator behind Goopy Banana Co. The name came from a funny moment when a friend’s mom described something as a “Goopy Banana,” and it just stuck with me. At first, I thought I’d save it for a band (still waiting on that musical breakthrough), but instead, it became the name of my art practice—capturing the playful, unexpected, and sometimes absurd energy I try to bring into everything I create.

As a queer Latinx artist, my relationship with art has been deeply personal. Growing up, art wasn’t necessarily seen as a viable career path, and I didn’t have formal training or a fancy art degree. Instead, I taught myself, spending years experimenting with different mediums and styles—mostly in private, sharing my work only with close friends. Art, for me, was a way to process the world around me, even if it felt like a quiet, personal endeavor. I live in Pasadena now, spending my free time selling at markets around Los Angeles.

It wasn’t until I was around 19 that I started putting my work out there, publishing online and slowly gaining confidence. That decision opened doors I hadn’t imagined—since then, I’ve had the chance to turn my art into more tangible things like t-shirts, stickers, postcards, and ceramics. What started as a personal outlet has grown into something I can share with the world.

In my artistic universe, my work is a blend of simplicity and childlike illustration, I attempt to create pieces that transport the viewer to a realm of comfort and adorability.

Now, Goopy Banana Co. is about more than just my art—it’s a way to connect with people, to invite others into this space I’ve created. My work can be found on social media, in galleries, and art shows, and I’m always excited to meet new people who resonate with what I do.

Thanks for being here and taking the time to explore my work. If you’d like to connect, feel free to visit the contact tab—I’d love to chat!
